As outcome of the project YOUR WAY TO SUCCESS part of the participants decided to write article about different resourses that can be used to boost youth employement.
Youth unemployment has always been more than twice as high as general unemployment. Therefore, in 2013 EU created the Youth Guarantee to help with solutions to decrease it. Since then, it has helped over 24 million of young people between 15-29 years old. It keeps the pledge that if you sign up, you will receive an offer of employment, apprenticeship or traineeship within 4 months.
Youth Employment Initiative (YEI) is the main EU financial resources to support the implementation of Youth Guarantee. The main function of it is to provide support to young people living in regions where youth unemployment was higher than 25%.
The Youth Employment Initiative exclusively supports young people who are not in education, employment or training. It ensures that in parts of Europe where the challenges are most acute, young people can receive targeted support. Typically, the YEI funds the provision of: apprenticeship, traineeship, job placements or further education leading to a qualification. In the apprenticeship the time is divided between learning at school and training in a company (with a contract and salary). After finishing, a fully recognized diploma or certification is given.
Moreover, the EU promotes apprenticeships through the European Alliance for Apprenticeships (EAfA) and the Apprenticeship Support Service. That way Erasmus+ can sponsor one’s training abroad.
What are the benefits?
Valuable work experience on the CV, good contacts in the industry that can help with starting a career (2 out of 3 people get hired immediately after finishing the apprenticeship).
People with practical skills and qualifications are very valuable to the market and by finishing the apprenticeship a young person can develop the skills that employers are looking for, which makes that person more employable.
