As part of the Inclusion Lab project, a key milestone was reached with the successful implementation of a Round Table on Refugee Integration, held in Bansko in close cooperation with Bansko Municipality. This important event created a space for dialogue and exchange among local stakeholders working at the forefront of refugee inclusion in the region.
The round table brought together a diverse group of participants, including local community members, municipal representatives, experts etc. Together, they discussed challenges, shared good practices, and explored collaborative approaches to supporting refugee integration in small towns like Bansko.
Among the active participants were residents from the host community—both young people and adults—who shared their everyday experiences and perspectives on living in a growingly diverse environment. Their contributions reflected the realities on the ground, highlighting both moments of successful coexistence and areas where further effort is needed to foster greater inclusion and mutual understanding.
Representatives from Bansko Municipality and other local authorities provided valuable insight into the policies and initiatives currently in place to support refugees at the municipal level. They spoke about their ongoing work to create inclusive structures and how municipalities can play a proactive role in bridging gaps between different communities.
Throughout the discussion, participants touched on several core themes, including the importance of youth engagement, education, employment opportunities, and community-based support systems. A shared understanding emerged that integration is not a one-sided process—it requires commitment, openness, and cooperation from all actors involved.
The event concluded with a collective sense of purpose and a renewed commitment to advancing refugee inclusion at the local level.
