With this training we aim to develop the youth workers ’ competences to build a Culture of Peace internally (in their organisation) and externally (in society) and exchange best practices in peacebuilding. We particularly focus on the interpersonal dimension of a CoP, but including also the personal and social dimensions. The objectives are to enable youth workers to:

1. Enhance empathy, mutual understanding, respect, conflict navigation and cooperation inside their youth groups and organisation, by using Nonviolent Communication;

2. Improve decision-making inside their youth groups and organisation, by using Sociocracy; Communication and Sociocracy- facilitate it for another group, and exchange best practices on peacebuilding.

3. Stimulate critical thinking and problem-solving, through the game dynamics of the Peace Please game;

4. Promote cooperation, inclusion, openness and sustainability in youth work;

5. Exchange best practices in peacebuilding, expand and enhance the (international) network of their organisations, improving cooperation with other groups and increasing the impact.

The program lasts six days, in which participants will learn everything about the main methodologies and concepts that.

More of the idea:

Five organisations developed an interactive cooperative card game, ‘Peace Please ’ during a project for adult education “Changing the Game Developing a Culture of Peace in Organisations ” from Dec. 2020 to Dec. 2022. The project arose as the creators tried to find a way to address serious global challenges, like (nuclear) war and climate change, as well as a need for implementing a CoP in our work environment, while lacking the tools, that was engaging, not too heavy, and inspiring. The game exists of challenge cards, two from each area of a Culture of Peace, action and panic cards. Players chose together which actions are the best to overcome the common challenge. They thus decide collectively and cooperate together. The game can be played with 3-6 players. As the game was developed for adult educators, in this training we want to explore how the game could be useful in youth work as well and if any adaptations are needed. Participants will create new challenge cards, translate the game into their local language and play it with youth and colleagues after returning home. The game fosters critical thinking, empathy and problem-solving skills, which can enhance youth workers capacity: considering the action cards on the table, players weigh different perspectives, and practice making decisions in a group. Because the game requires discussion and negotiation among players, it enhances communication skills, including active listening, articulating thoughts clearly, and respectfully debating different viewpoints. It helps develop the ability to critically analyze situations and consider various factors before taking action. And the game challenges the players to find creative solutions, which will enhance their problem-solving skills. In addition, the game fosters teamwork and collaboration, as well as active citizenship.
