Recent events such as the COVID-19 pandemic, the Russian invasion of Ukraine, and Brexit significantly impacted European citizens, leading to a rise in anti-European and nationalist sentiments, particularly among the youth. To address this, a group of young Europeans launched the “ACTIVE: Active Crew To Inclusive View of Europe” project.
The project aimed to promote understanding of the European Union and European citizenship, raise awareness of Erasmus+ and European Solidarity Corps programs, and introduce EU values. It also sought to develop skills and knowledge for community service, foster open-mindedness and cultural diversity, and encourage volunteering and civic engagement among young people.
The “ACTIVE” project involved 37 young participants aged 17 to 22 from Italy, Bulgaria, Spain, Portugal, Greece, and Romania. These participants gathered in Castellammare di Stabia, Italy. The activities were based on non-formal education techniques, including role-playing, simulations, team-building exercises, World Café, Human Library, and Forum Theater. These methods aimed to provide participants with a comprehensive understanding of Europe, its values, and the opportunities it offers.
The project targeted young people who were NEET (Not in Education, Employment, or Training), first-time international project participants, and those interested in volunteering. It also focused on individuals facing economic, social, or geographical challenges, or belonging to ethnic or religious minorities, as well as youth keen on making positive changes in their communities and across Europe.
Through this initiative, the “ACTIVE” project aspired to empower young Europeans, enhancing their understanding of the EU, fostering a sense of European identity, and promoting active participation in creating a more inclusive and united Europe.
Here we are sharing the outcomes that the participants did during the project:
